What Did I Learn This Week? – #1 – January 28, 2018

“You learn something new every day.”

Ain’t it the truth? This old dog is always willing to try out some new tricks. So, why not share?

I’m going to try something new on the site. I’m going to share a few quick hits on some things that jumped out at me each week. Sharing is caring – right?

Let me stop with the clichés and get to this week’s list.

Rice Krispie Treats are still amazing.

SO GOOD

Made them today. I forget how easy they are! Melt the butter, stir in the marshmallows and then the Rice Krispies. As simple as Snap, Crackle, Pop – wouldn’t you say? We added in some rainbow sprinkles while we were stirring in the cereal, gave a really cool watercolor effect throughout.

Going back to work, after some time off, isn’t easy.

Feeling a little buried at work.

I went back to work this week after staying home for a few weeks with my family. It was not an easy adjustment. I had some amazing people in the office taking care of my desk while I was away, but it still took me a few days to get my inbox back to normal, my desk back to the way I like it and into a flow of how I work. Hopefully tomorrow will be easy peasy.

Joshua Malina is a huge Three Amigos fan.

I’ll still here El Guapo!

I was listening to The West Wing Weekly on my ride into the aforementioned work, and in one of the episodes, Josh brought up The Three Amigos. When I saw Tony Plana on The West Wing I shouted – JEFE!! Apparently – so did Josh Malina. I think a viewing of the 1986 comedy classic is due.

In late January, a 50 degree day in the sun is heavenly.

LOVED the warm sun this weekend

What a treat it was yesterday to be able to work outside in the yard. I did some basic projects around the house, but being outside without a jacket and winter hat was glorious. It’s going to make the next snow storm hurt all that much more.

I missed my Carhartts.

Nice to trade in the winter mittens for some Carhartt work gloves!

It was great to throw on the Carhartt pants, sweatshirt and gloves and get back out to work. I got these new work gloves for Christmas. They are GREAT!

They are lightweight, have the nice wrist strap and are water resistant in the palms. Perfect for a soggy day outside. Check out our “Shop This Story” links below to get your pair. They’re on Amazon now for around $21.00. If you buy them via our link – you can help us get a small commission on it! Win win!

No matter how many times I’ve heard it, I LOVE the Moana soundtrack.

Got this stuck in your head now?

And I’ve heard it a LOT! But the songs are so good, powerful, fun! Lin Manual Miranda’s genius knows no bounds. Yeah, if you didn’t know – the guy behind Broadway’s Hamilton did the music for Moana. He writes for Sesame Street too!

Don’t have it yet? (It’s worth getting the hard copy for your car, trust me.) You can get it via a link below – you’re welcome!

Fresh shrimp cook VERY fast.

Seriously – they cook SO fast!

I’ve been trying to step up my cooking game around here lately. Last night we had some fresh shrimp and a container of fresh crab in the fridge. I turned the crab into a yummy creamy dip with vegetables and pita chips for scooping. As far as the shrimp goes – I cooked them in a pan with butter.

But I way overcooked them. Then needed like MAYBE 2 minutes… I was going on 7 when I finally took them off. A little chewy – but still yummy with some rice and peas.

That’s it for this week. What about you guys? What did you learn this week? Let’s share!
