We’ve got you covered there too! Our resident musician – Jon – came up with an amazing 2-hour playlist on Spotify filled with songs guaranteed to brings some ‘feels’ to your Valentine’s Day.
Rob Gordon (John Cusack in High Fidelity – on Mat’s list of Valentine’s Movies, by the way) said it best about compiling a list of songs:
“The making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all, you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing…. The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don’t wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules.”
Jon started it off right with a Bob Dylan masterpiece – “Make Your Feel My Love”. There are many great versions of this song, including Billy Joel and Garth Brooks – but Jon went with the haunting voice of Adele.
He has some modern voices in there such as; Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Bon Iver, The Lumineers, Maroon 5, Gavin DeGraw, Rihanna and Lana Del Rey.
He pays homage to the classics with Al Green, The Beach Boys, Billy Joel and Elton John.
A trip to our days in college brings tracks from Jewel, Goo Goo Dolls, The Sundays, Sixpence None The Richer and Lisa Loeb.
Some rock acts have their say too! U2, Extreme and Coldplay bring the goods. Jon, (rocking it with a Los Angeles Country Band – TennWest) can’t make a list without some country in there – so we have Chris Stapleton representing the genre.
For the grand finale, Jon ends the list with “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak. This could be the sexiest song every recorded. What you do from there is up to you.
