“You learn something new every day.”
Time for this week’s installment of things that I learned. Let’s get to sharing!
Tom Hanks is playing Mr. Rogers.
I adored watching Mr. Rogers as a kid. As an adult, a friend had gifted me the book “The World According to Mister Rogers: Important Things to Remember”. It’s filled with the insight and ‘feel good’ things you’d expect from the man in the zipper sweater.
I love this book, love the man, and had gifted it a few times to former students and some friends, too.
Recently I read that a biopic of Mister Rogers is being made tentatively called You Are My Friend – and they cast Tom Hanks in the role. How perfect is that?
Read the box contents before buying something.
Last summer, we bought a GIANT T-Rex pool float for a ½ birthday surprise – to be specific it’s Swimline T-Rex Giant Ride On. It’s amazing! But, it took FOREVER to inflate with my little Husky air pump – killing the air pump about 2/3 of the way through. So, our tires on the farm cart were left quite flat for several months.
For my birthday, this past week, we decided to invest in a good air compressor. Did some research and decided to go for the PORTER-CABLE C2002 Oil-Free UMC Pancake Compressor from Home Depot. They were selling it for $99 – about what we wanted to spend. Same model and price on Amazon right now, too! There was a more expensive set that came with the air guns and an air stapler for $270, but baby steps – didn’t need the tools yet, just wanted to be able to inflate tires, toys, etc.
Bought the box and brought it home. A few days later I went to use it to inflate the tires on our cart and bring in more firewood. The canister of the compressor is a beautiful red.
But that was all that was in the box. Apparently the $99 version has even less than the air staplers – it doesn’t come with ANYTHING. No hose. No attachments. No nozzles. I had a $99 giant metal can.
So, yeah – read the contents before you buy!
It feels amazing to be thought of.
A few days after lamenting at work over the lack of use of my birthday compressor – the gang at work made me a special lunch and gave me a few gifts.
What did I get? An air compressor hose and 20-piece accessory kit! They had called my wife and asked what I needed and – boy did that surprise me.
I smiled all day. Yes, I was excited to finally use the compressor –but knowing a group of people spent the time to figure out what I would like and make it happen – very special feeling. I’m a lucky man.
Peanut butter and bacon are fantastic together.
On Saturday we headed off to a local restaurant called the Jealous Monk. In the evenings, this “social hall” is the king of tap rooms. Electronically monitors beers on every tap. But, during the day, it’s very family friendly – with great food.
I’m a sucker for a big hot pretzel. They had one that call the “Big A” Pretzel – and it is HUGE! Was the size of half a sheet pan. It came with spicy deli mustard, honey mustard and I added a peanut butter bacon jam.
OH MAN! Where has this flavor profile been all my life!?
They sell mini avocados!
Was at the local grocery store today and filling our cart with fresh veggies. We always throw in a handful of avocados because Mexican style food is very popular in our home.
Then I saw the cutest packaging for mini avocados. These things looked awesome. They were the perfect size if you’re making a one-serving guacamole or want to take an avocado in a lunch bag to work.
Of course, I didn’t buy any – so maybe it’s just a good look and not necessarily a ‘you must buy this’ packaging…
Solo looks GOOD!
Watched the trailer for Solo – the new Star Wars movie based on the early days of Han Solo and Chewbacca. Unlike Rogue One, which never caught my attention – Solo immediately hooked me. I’m looking forward to Memorial Day weekend to check this one out – looks like a fun ride.
That’s it for this week. What about you guys? What did you learn this week? Let’s share!
