ModernMan Star Wars Saturday Top 10 – Favorite Star Wars Characters

Hello readers!

A few years ago, a merry band of Star Wars fanatics and I put together Top 10 Lists of our favorite Star Wars characters, ships, aliens, and so much more!

We’ve resurrected this here on MindofModernMan for Star Wars Saturdays!

This week we asked the hardest question in the galaxy – who are our favorite Star Wars Characters? This includes the movies AND the TV shows! I’m sure if we asked these same fans to give me the list again, they would change.

Our Mega Fans this time: Chris, Gina, Jeff, Jon, Josh, Kevin, Matt, Mike and myself.

Remember, we vote with our hearts – these are our lists of FAVORITES, not necessarily the “BEST”. After the list, keep reading for some of my thoughts on what the voting showed.

Thanks to StarWars.com’s Databank for the character descriptions! As always, I’ll be back after the list with my thoughts on how it went down and other votes that came in.

Let’s get to it!

#10
Rey
First Seen: The Force Awakens
Average Score: 1.3

Artist: MinionKing on DeviantArt
Rey

A scavenger toughened by life in Jakku’s harsh deserts, Rey has been drawn into a galaxy-spanning conflict and learned that her life is being shaped by the mysterious power of the Force.

She seeks out Luke Skywalker, the lost Jedi Master, in hopes that he will aid the Resistance against the First Order and help her control her growing powers.

But when that quest ends in disappointment, Rey must find a new way forward.

#9
BB-8
First Seen: The Force Awakens
Average Score: 1.3

Artist: Alex Bedard
BB-8

A skittish but loyal astromech, BB-8 accompanied Poe Dameron on many missions for the Resistance, helping keep his X-wing in working order.

When Poe’s mission to Jakku ended with his capture by the First Order, BB-8 fled into the desert with a vital clue to the location of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

He rejoined Poe and the service of the Resistance in time for the attack on Starkiller Base, then helped Rey locate Skywalker’s planet of exile.

#8
Chewbacca
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 2.4

Artist: MW Lynch
Chewbacca:

During his long life Chewbacca has been many things: Wookiee warrior, ace smuggler and rebel hero. Chewie fought with the Republic on Kashyyyk during the Clone Wars, then befriended Han Solo while in Imperial captivity on Mimban.

After adventures on Vandor and Kessel, he became Han’s co-pilot aboard the Millennium Falcon, and eventually helped the Alliance restore freedom to the galaxy.

Known for his short temper and accuracy with a bowcaster, Chewie also had a big heart – and unflagging loyalty to his friends.

He stuck with Han through years of turmoil, and flew the Falcon alongside Rey after the Corellian’s death.

#7
R2-D2
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 3.6

Artist: Beths Fienne Art
R2-D2

A resourceful astromech droid, R2-D2 served Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker in turn, showing great bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils.

A skilled starship mechanic and fighter pilot’s assistant, he formed an unlikely but enduring friendship with the fussy protocol droid C-3PO.

After the Battle of Endor, R2-D2 accompanied Luke on many missions to recover lost Jedi lore and rebuild the Jedi order. Artoo witnessed both triumphs and tragedies, culminating in Luke’s decision to retreat into exile.

With his master vanished, R2-D2 sunk into a kind of droid funk. Happily, the droid revived at a critical moment, helping BB-8 discover the location of Luke’s planet of exile. R2-D2 then joined Rey and Chewbacca on their journey to Ahch-To, where he was reunited with his former master.

#6
Yoda
First Seen: Empire Strikes Back
Average Score: 4.0

Artist: James Baker
Yoda

Yoda was a legendary Jedi Master and stronger than most in his connection with the Force.

Small in size but wise and powerful, he trained Jedi for over 800 years, playing integral roles in the Clone Wars, the instruction of Luke Skywalker, and unlocking the path to immortality.

At the urging of Obi-Wan, Yoda agreed to instruct Luke, teaching him to be calm and developing his Jedi abilities. Yet the student was still reckless. He left Dagobah — without completing his training — to face Darth Vader.

Luke was not ready; he suffered an agonizing defeat at the hands of the Sith Lord, who also revealed himself to be the boy’s father.

His life fading fast, the ancient Master spoke his last words, and revealed to Luke that there was another Skywalker. With that, Yoda accepted his mortality and death, and became one with the Force.

#5
Princess Leia
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 5.1

Artist: Joe Quinone
Leia Organa

Princess Leia Organa was one of the Rebel Alliance’s greatest leaders, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire.

Daughter of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker, sister of Luke Skywalker, and with a soft spot for scoundrels, Leia ranks among the galaxy’s great heroes. But life under the New Republic has not been easy for Leia.

Sidelined by a new generation of political leaders, she struck out on her own to oppose the First Order as founder of the Resistance. These setbacks in her political career have been accompanied by more personal losses.

#4
Obi-Wan Kenobi
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 5.3

Artist: Serk
Obi-Wan Kenobi

A legendary Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a noble man and gifted in the ways of the Force. He trained Anakin Skywalker, served as a general in the Republic Army during the Clone Wars, and guided Luke Skywalker as a mentor.

Luke Skywalker became a Rebel hero after the destruction of the Death Star, helping lead the Rebels to their new secret base on the ice planet Hoth. After a savage wampa attack in the freezing cold, Luke was visited by the spectral form of Obi-Wan, who told him to go to Dagobah where he would be trained by a Jedi Master named Yoda.

Luke went to the swamp planet, where he continued his Jedi lessons and received guidance from Obi-Wan, who could appear in spirit form through the power of the Force. He encouraged Luke to complete his training before facing Darth Vader, but the brash Jedi would not listen.

#3
Luke Skywalker
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 6.9

Artist: Dean Kotz
Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker was a Tatooine farmboy who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the greatest Jedi the galaxy has ever known. Along with his friends Princess Leia and Han Solo, Luke battled the evil Empire, discovered the truth of his parentage, and ended the tyranny of the Sith.

A generation later, the location of the famed Jedi master was one of the galaxy’s greatest mysteries. Haunted by Ben Solo’s fall to evil and convinced the Jedi had to end, Luke sought exile on a distant world, ignoring the galaxy’s pleas for help.

But his solitude would be interrupted – and Luke Skywalker had one final, momentous role to play in the struggle between good and evil.

#2
Han Solo
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 8.3

Artist: Lefluff-ed
Han Solo

Han Solo rose from an impoverished childhood on the mean streets of Corellia to become one of the heroes of the Rebel Alliance.

As captain of the Millennium Falcon, Han and his co-pilot Chewbacca came to believe in the cause of galactic freedom, joining Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa in the fight against the Empire.

After the Battle of Endor, Han faced difficult times in a chaotic galaxy, leading to a shattering confrontation with his estranged son Ben.

#1
Darth Vader
First Seen: A New Hope
Average Score: 8.6

Artist: E.R. Webb
Darth Vader

Once a heroic Jedi Knight, Darth Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force, became a Sith Lord, and led the Empire’s eradication of the Jedi Order.

He remained in service of the Emperor — the evil Darth Sidious — for decades, enforcing his Master’s will and seeking to crush the fledgling Rebel Alliance.

But there was still good in him…

Keith’s Thoughts

Here is what I get from looking at the voting….

We had 34 different characters nominated by our Mega Fans! When it comes to characters – we are suckers for the original trilogy. Of all the votes, 19 are from episodes 4, 5 or 6. Followed by FIVE from the TV shows, four from the Disney Era trilogy, and 3 each from the Prequels and Side Movies (Rogue One, Solo).

The character who JUST missed the cut, and had a 1+ score was Boba Fett with a 1.2 score.

No one from the movie Solo made the list, all three Side Movie characters are from Rogue One: Chirrut Imwe, Jyn Erso, and K2-SO.

Characters receiving first place votes: Darth Vader (2), Han Solo (1), Luke Skywalker (1), Obi-Wan Kenobi (1), Princess Leia (1), Yoda (1) and yes… General Greivious (1).

We love droids! R2, BB-8, C-3PO, K2-SO all made it.

My favorite character to make the list was a small role in Rebels but a BIG part of our favorite books!

Grand Admiral Thrawn is a force to be reckoned with.

How about you? Who are your Top 10 Favorites? Share in the comments below!

Cheers!
Keith
