MindofModernMan Star Wars Fan Panel – Favorite Star Wars Alien Species

Welcome to Star Wars Saturdays! Our Star Wars Fan Panel – a group of big time Star Wars fans – has gathered to talk all things from a Galaxy Far Far Away!

On Saturdays we share our thoughts on ranking anything and everything in the Star Wars galaxy! What makes us different? We vote with our hearts. Our lists are our top FAVORITE things about each Star Wars category. We believe there are already too many critical lists, artistry lists, film making lists… yadda yadda… we are simply talking about our FAVORITES – as all fans do.

Our merry band of rebel fans are:

This week – 10 of us focused on the unusual, cool looking and never-before-seen characters of the Star Wars Universe – the alien species.

You won’t see Luke, Leia or Han here – no humans allowed. No droids or anyone manufactured here, either. And this list doesn’t focus on one specific member of a species, but rather the species as a whole.

Only 1 alien species received unanimous nominations (on every ballot). Can you guess? 6 of the 10 ballots had different #1 options – so the list shows a lot of variance. Over all, we nominated over 25 different species.

Check out the list and then some of my thoughts after. Then, hit the comments and sound off on what you feel about our list!

On to the list… Punch it!

(TIE!) Hutts & Tusken Raiders

Yoda’s Species
First Introduced: Original Trilogy
Top 10 Score: 6.60. Nominated on 8 ballots. 1 first place vote.

In any piece of Star Wars lore – there is no mention of the species that gave us Yoda. No one is quite sure why. It’s always referred to as “Yoda’s Species”.

Who Do We Know?: Yoda, Yaddle, The Child

Wookiees
First Seen: Original Trilogy
Top 10 Score: 8.60. Nominated on ALL 10 ballots. 3 first place votes.

From Kashyyyk

Who Do We Know?: Chewbacca, General Tarfful, Wullffwarro, and son Kitwarr. Force-sensitive Wookiee – Jedi youngling Gungi.

There were lots of fun memories to go through. A lot of our favorites didn’t even make the list! I’m still under the impression that many of our favorites stem from a nostalgic connection to action figures we owned as kids – prime example: Ithorians – who we knew as Hammerhead! A simple flash in the original cantina scene in A New Hope. Sure, the species was fleshed out more in Star Wars Rebels and plays a part in Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities shop in Galaxy’s Edge as the Disney Parks, but it was a really cool action figure!

Where did the Ithorians land on “Missed The List”?

Chiss 1.50 (Grand Admiran Thrawn)
Porgs 1.30
Gamorreans 1.20 (Jabba’s Guards)
Tauntauns 1.00 (One vote – but it was a FIRST place vote!)

The other who were nominated:
Bith (Cantina Band), Sullustan (Nien Nunb), Bothans (so many died to help destroy the Death Star), Kaminoans (REALLY tall), Rodians (Greedo), Ortolans (Max Rebo), Ithorians (Hammerhead), Kiwakian Monkey Lizard (Salacious B. Crumb), Nexus (big tiger in the arena), Lasat (Zeb), Ugnaughts (I have spoken), Nautolans (Kit Fisto), Weequays (Jabba’s Sail Barge), and Geonosians (Bugs!).

What’s your order? Who are your favorites in the Star Wars Universe? Who didn’t make our list as a glaring mistake in your eyes? Surprised to see Bossk ahead of Ahsoka?

Hit the comments and let us know. Or head over to our Instagram Page and hit us up there, too!

On behalf of the Star Wars Fan Panel, thank you for reading and we’ll see you next time for another Star Wars Saturday.

Cheers!
Keith
